I built this application in Ruby on Rails with AMP by Google, and Heroku. The inspiration for this site came from the need for top-tier recommendations. I frequently found myself at mediocre spots because popular sites like Zagat, Yelp, or The Infatuation had so many listings that the quality was diluted.
My friend Ohad had stellar recommendations for places to go out in New York City, and he always broke it down into 3 simple steps:
- Do you want to eat, drink or have a late night snack?
- Where do you want to go out?
- What vibes are you looking for?
I built this site around these 3 filters for finding the perfect spot to go out in NYC.
In order to do this, I built a content management system (CMS) and structured data that allowed for curation of establishments based on venue type, vibe, and neighborhood. I also built a simple search that generates SQL that acts as filters of the database to create a list of results.
